Too Discouraged to Blog

The Grump is basically an optimistic person. But this week, with the New Orleans hurricane and its aftermath, the Grump has found himself too sad and too discouraged to blog. A horrible natural disaster, and our response is to set upon ourselves with vitriol and disgust. No one comes out of this looking good. No one.

Hi, Grump. You say that no one comes out of this looking good, OK. But if there is any relation between power and privilege on the one hand and responsibility on the other, some folks come out looking worse than others. For example, a president that replaces top specialists at FEMA with inexperienced political cronies looks worse than a citizen who breaks into a deserted supermarket for water and food for his family. One appreciates the fact that The Grump is an equal opportunity grump. That's refreshing, but equal opportunity doesn't mean that power and privilege don't carry with them proportionate responsibility.
